FOR ICE-PICK ACNE SCARS, STRETCH MARKS, OR DEEP DERMAL REMODELLING

RF microneedling reaches a depth creams and lasers cannot. That is where acne scars and stretch marks actually live.

Dr Samantha uses an Anti-matte RF microneedling device, 24 gold needles per pulse delivering radiofrequency into the dermis to stimulate collagen production and tissue remodelling. This is a slow treatment. Six to ten sessions before the full result reads. For ice-pick acne scars and stretch marks, the patience pays off. For pigmentation, Pico is the faster answer (see /pico-laser-treatment).

What RF microneedling actually treats

Ice-pick acne scar microneedling RF

Ice-pick acne scar microneedling RF

Deep narrow scars. Dr Sam pairs with Pico for best result. 6-10 sessions for visible improvement. The single highest-volume indication.

Wrinkles and fine lines

Wrinkles and fine lines

Forehead, crow's-feet, peri-oral lines. Microneedling RF stimulates dermal remodelling without the muscle-relaxant downtime of anti-wrinkle injection.

Enlarged pores

Enlarged pores

Deep pores along nose/cheek tighten over 4-6 sessions as dermal remodelling progresses.

Skin tightening (mild)

Skin tightening (mild)

Lower-face and neck. Mild firmness improvement; for deeper tightening, HIFU (/hifu-treatment) is the stronger tool.

Stretch mark protocol

Stretch mark protocol

Post-pregnancy or growth-related stretch marks. Per-area pricing. 4-8 sessions typical.

Melasma combo with Pico

Melasma combo with Pico

Microneedling RF + Pico ablation in same session. Dr Sam's locked protocol for stubborn melasma where Pico alone isn't holding.

How RF microneedling actually works

Microneedling patients usually arrive with one of two concerns: ice-pick acne scars that pigment lasers haven't fully corrected, or stretch marks that creams haven't touched. RF microneedling is the dermal-remodelling tool for both.

  • Mechanical micro-injury: 24 fine gold needles create controlled micro-channels in the dermis (24 channels per pulse, pulse repeated across the treatment zone).
  • Radiofrequency thermal energy: each needle delivers RF energy at the chosen dermal depth (1mm to 4mm depending on area), heating the dermis to ~65°C.
  • Collagen + elastin response: the dermal wound + heat triggers collagen and elastin remodelling across 6-12 weeks per session.

RF microneedling pricing in Singapore varies by device and session length. Most clinics sit in the SGD 350 to SGD 700 per session range. Current per-session pricing at Nexus is shown in the treatment menu above. RF microneedling is not Medisave-claimable in Singapore.

How the Anti-matte device differs from older RF platforms

Anti-matte is the Korean RF microneedling device class, similar mechanism family to Genius RF microneedling (Lutronic), Morpheus8, Intensif, and Sylfirm X. The 24-pin gold needle array + RF power delivery is the shared platform across this device category.

Why patients sometimes lose patience early in the course

The most common patient frustration with microneedling is the 6-10 session timeline before visible change reads. This isn't a device problem, it's a biology problem. Collagen remodelling takes weeks per session, and compounding takes multiple sessions.

Patients who quit at session 3-4 (a common drop-off point) miss the result that lands at session 6-10. Dr Sam's protocol is honest about this from session 1, with photo comparison at session 6 to show the cumulative change against baseline.

Why Dr Samantha pairs depth-RF channels with Pico for ice-pick scars

For ice-pick acne scars specifically, microneedling alone often isn't enough, and Pico (/pico-laser-treatment) alone often isn't enough either. The combined protocol is what Dr Sam recommends:

  • Pico ablation handles the surface pigment + softens the scar walls (Pico Eye / Pico Toning variants).
  • Microneedling RF singapore reaches the dermal scar floor, the depth Pico can't fully address.
  • Pairing both in the same session is Dr Sam's locked protocol for ice-pick + rolling acne scars. RF microneedling price for the combo protocol: SGD 600 per session.
  • Sequencing alternates: Pico in cycle 1-3, microneedling RF in cycle 4-6, repeat. Total: 8-12 sessions for visible scar improvement.

Who RF microneedling suits and who it does not

An honest filter before booking. Microneedling is a patience tool, not a fast-result tool.

Suitable for

Microneedling fits well

  • Ice-pick or rolling acne scars not fully corrected by laser alone
  • Stretch marks (post-pregnancy, post-weight-loss, growth-related)
  • Deep enlarged pores not responsive to topical retinoids
  • Fine lines or skin texture concerns requiring dermal remodelling
  • Patients willing to commit to 6-10 sessions over 6-12 months
  • Combination protocol candidates pairing Pico + microneedling RF
Take care

Microneedling is not the right tool

  • Patients seeking visible change in 1-3 sessions (route to Pico for faster pigment results)
  • Active acne or skin infection at the treatment site (HCSA standard pause)
  • Active keloid scars or keloid-prone skin (microneedling can worsen)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding (HCSA standard pause)
  • Recent isotretinoin use (Dr Sam will wait 6 months post-Roaccutane before treatment)
  • Bleeding disorders or anticoagulant use without medical clearance

If your concern is pigmentation, Pico Laser (/pico-laser-treatment) is faster. If it's deep dermal acne scars or stretch marks, microneedling RF + Pico combo is the protocol. If it's skin booster / hydration, see /skin-booster.

What an RF microneedling session at Nexus looks like

Treatment day
  1. Step 1, 30 min

    Numbing + skin prep

Topical anaesthetic for 30 minutes, microneedling is one of the more uncomfortable procedures without adequate numbing. Skin cleaned and marked.

  2. Step 2, 15 min

    Microneedling RF pulses

Dr Sam delivers the 24-gold-needle RF pulses across the treatment zone. Depth + RF power calibrated per area, face is 1-1.5mm, stretch marks 2-3mm.

  3. Step 3, 5 min

    Cool down + soothing

Cold compress. Mild redness + pinpoint bleeding settles within 30-60 minutes.

  4. Step 4, 5 min

    Aftercare brief + photo baseline

Dr Sam photographs the area for tracking. Brief on the 48-hour aftercare window. Follow-up at week 4-6 for next session.

Total chair time: 60-90 minutes including numbing. RF microneedling downtime is 1-3 days of mild redness + pinprick marks.

Difficult acne scars or stretch marks may require a longer course. Dr Samantha plans a 4-10 session programme depending on scar type, depth, skin response, and whether Pico is combined. Reviews are usually scheduled during the course rather than treated as a fixed result date. Individual results vary.

Side effects and downtime to expect after channel-depth RF

Microneedling RF side effects are typically mild and short-lived. RF microneedling downtime is the lowest in the energy-device category.

Worth knowing

Common (most patients)

  • Mild redness for 6-24 hours post-session
  • Pinpoint bleeding marks for 12-24 hours
  • Slight tenderness over treated zone for 24-48 hours
  • Mild swelling for 24-72 hours
  • Dry skin for 3-5 days as the dermal remodelling begins
Take care

Rare (under 5%)

  • Larger bruising at vascular zones, resolves in 5-7 days
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), rare in Asian skin when depth is calibrated correctly
  • Localised tenderness past 72 hours
  • Infection at micro-channel sites, very rare with proper aftercare

Patients on isotretinoin (Roaccutane) within 6 months are at higher risk of poor wound healing. Dr Sam will wait 6 months post-Roaccutane before treatment.

Aftercare after your channel-depth session

Aftercare for microneedling is about protecting the open micro-channels for 48 hours + sun-protecting the regenerating skin.

Aftercare timeline
  1. Day 0 to 2

    Calm the micro-channels

No makeup over treated zone for 12 hours. Saline mist or barrier cream only. No retinol, no acid actives, no harsh cleansers. Avoid sweat-heavy exercise + saunas + alcohol.

  2. Day 3 to 7

    Restore the barrier

Resume gentle moisturiser + SPF 50 (non-negotiable). Skip retinol and acid actives until day 7. Hyaluronic-acid serum boosts hydration during remodelling.

  3. Week 2 onwards

    Compound the result

Collagen remodelling continues for 6-12 weeks per session. Daily SPF + barrier care. Photo comparison vs baseline at session 6 to track cumulative change.

Benefits of Dr Samantha's RF-depth approach

Six clinical benefits stand out:

  • Doctor-delivered: every RF microneedling session is performed by Dr Samantha, with depth and RF power calibrated per area and per session.
  • Honest pacing: 6-10 session expectation set from session 1, not over-promised.
RF microneedling before and after
  • Combo-ready: Pico + microneedling RF stacking for ice-pick acne scars + melasma.
  • Asian-skin calibrated: depth and RF power tuned for Fitzpatrick III-V to minimise PIH risk.
  • Tracked: photo comparison at session 6 confirms cumulative result against baseline.
  • RF microneedling benefits compound: each session builds on the last; missing sessions resets some progress.
